[edit] Citizen Journalists and the Fifth Congressional District Special Election
[edit] With U.S. Rep. Martin T. Meehan, D-Lowell, set to resign his congressional seat to become UMass Lowell chancellor, a hot race to succeed him in a special election is already underway. At least five unoffcial candidates have agreed to come answer questions at a "meetup" convened by bloggers Lynne Lupien and Dick Howe.

1. Candidates will be seated on the stage and will speak in the order they RSVP’d (see below for sequence)
2. Each candidate will have a total of 8 minutes to introduce self and answer questions from the audience (NOTE: if 7th candidate is present, reduce time to 7 minutes each)
3. Each candidate may use up to 3 of the 8 minutes for introductory remarks from the podium.
4. Questions will come from the audience:
a. Moderator will designate which candidate will answer the next question b. Moderator will select audience member to ask question of that candidate c. Candidate will respond to question from seat on stage (not from podium) d. Candidate may use as much or as little of that candidate’s remaining time to answer that question e. Once candidate has used his/her full 8 minutes, no further questions will be directed to that candidate f. Questions will continue until all candidates use their allotted time. g. Time spent by audience member asking question will not count against candidate time
