Mini-bio of Jim Paulin

Jim Paulin has spent the past 17 years covering news in rural Alaska for newspapers and public radio. He has worked in Unalaska/Dutch Harbor, Dillingham, Kotzebue and Kodiak, communities accessible only by airplane or boat. He was also a regular contributor to statewide news media based in Anchorage. In 2000, he bought a digital camera, getting photos into the Dutch Harbor Fisherman in a more timely manner. No more airfreighting raw film. In the days of film, images got moldy because of early deadlines at the newspaper chain’s central office in Anchorage, 800 miles away. But he still had to make weekly trips to the air cargo office to pick up newspaper bundles. Before moving to Alaska, he worked for various newspapers in Massachusetts including the Amherst Morning Record, Greenfield Recorder, Gardner News and the Daily Collegian at UMass.
