MASSACHUSETTS & NEW ENGLAND PROGRESSIVE POLITICAL BLOGGERS GATHERING on Friday June 30, UMass Amherst -- $40 for the day

Come join a "meet-up" of Massachusetts and New England political bloggers at noon on Friday, June 30, 2006, at the Media Giraffe Project summit at the University of Massachusetts Amherst Campus Center. For info, contact: Michael DeChiara of www.wonkNOT.net.

The gathering will start at 12:00 noon run until group wants to end. The session will run concurrently with other panels, sessions and meetings at the Media Giraffe conference, "Democracy & Independence: Sharing News & Politics in a Connected World." The group will figure out what topics are most pertinent for discussion. Might include:

  • Plans for coverage of the Massachusetts gubernatorial primary and election? How can bloggers have impact?
  • Now that the blogosphere has grown to include "professionals", what does this mean for "citizen" blogging?

In addition to the gathering, you will have access to the rest of the conference which is from 8am to 9pm. Consider:

  • Meeting with Open Source Radio host Christoper Lydon about his proposal for a "New England Common" online magazine similar in concept to the Huffington Post.
  • Convening with media and journalism educators at the high-school and college level about the use of blogs and podcasts in the classroom.
  • Sharing ideas with main-stream media attendees at the Media Giraffe summit. How can citizen poltical bloggers and professional journalists enhance each other's "watchdog" role?

Further networking: at the "ice-cream social" 3:30-4:15 (included with registration). A chance to mingle with fellow bloggers and all other conference attendees.
