Media Giraffe Project events -- upcoming and archives

The Media Giraffe Project, alone and in collaboration with others, helps convene seminars, conferences, workshops and other events. Among purposes of these events:

  • Spotlight media innovation which fosters participatory democracy and community.
  • Support inquiry and action toward sustaining journalism
  • Study and advance news literacy among the public, students and citizen journalists.
  • CONFERENCE: What will happen when only journalism is left? Aug. 7-8, Washington, D.C.

    How should "the next newsroom" be organized and governed? Who should own it? And pay for it? Is it a place, or just a service?     A wall-chart locates meeting rooms in the University of Massachusetts Campus Center which will be used for sessions of MGP2006.

    TRANSPORATION: Amtrak operates New York-Amherst daily train

    Amtrak operates a daily train from New York City to Amherst. "The Vermonter" is an all-reserved through train from Washington, D.C., to Montreal. It arrives in Amherst at 4:30 p.m. from the south and departs for NYC daily at 1:19 p.m.

    Digital Filmmaking Workshop & Festival: Learn how to put your short digital video on the web; view some great examples

    Individuals who would like to learn how to improve their video making abilities and how their videos can become an important part of citizen's media are encouraged to attend this workshop and mini-festival on Friday afternoon, June 30.

    The Media Giraffe Project will facilitate meeting locations and times on Wednesday or Saturday afternoon for informal "meetups" among interest groups. Meetup sessions will be posted on the conference website during June. Some meetups can involve hiking or bicycling, weather permitting.
