INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY: Website editing for Media Giraffe Project
TWO-CREDIT ACADEMIC INTERNSHIP AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY;
WEBMASTER FOR MEDIA GIRAFFE PROJECT; WRITING, EDITING
If you are a UMass student adept at writing for the web, using blogs and social-networking tools, here's an opportunity for you to earn academic credit, to get exposure for your work and to make a difference. It involves The Media Giraffe Project, a research initiative of Prof. Norman Sims in the Journalism program at UMass Amherst. See: http://www.mediagiraffe.org.
MGP finds and spotlights people making innovative and sustainable use of media to foster participatory democracy and community. We need a webmaster!
Our student- and researcher-written profiles of hundreds of such "Giraffe prospects" are cited and quoted by media entrepreneurs and innovators
nationwide. Besides editing and posting profiles written by students at UMass, the University of Missouri and elsewhere, you will be assigned to write brief blog updates on noteworthy "Giraffe" activity and news that affects the future or journalism and media entrepreneurship.
Hours are completely flexible -- you can work from your own computer. This is a one- or two-credit-per-semester internship, depending on whether the work is shared among two interns. As MGP webmaster, you will be invited to attend at least one Journalism That Matters conferences in cities such as Seattle or Chicago.
To apply, send a brief narrative email explaining why you'd be terrific at this internship to Bill Densmore, director, The Media Giraffe Project at
